Marta Wiley's (formerly Gottfried) art is an colorful, captivating, and varied as the artist herself. Born in Mexico City, Wiley is of European, Irish and Cherokee descent. As a child, there was a wild streak in young Marta that her grandmother, also an artist, helped channel into the fine arts.

Born of European, Mexican and Cherokee descent, Wiley grew up in Coyoacan, Mexico, the city where Diego Rivera and Frieda Kahlo lived and painted. Wiley received formal training at the Parsons School of Design, but she credits the start of her career to her grandmother: fellow artist Martha Gottfried.
