I really enjoyed Dark River by Mary Jane Beaufrand. I also enjoyed her first book Primavera()and although I finished Dark River a month ago I still think about did a great job of creating a rich sense of place and fully develops her characters to the point where you connect with and truly care about them.Veronica Severance feels cut off from the world.

I was really impressed with the directness of this book – Beaufrand’s writing jumps right in from the beginning of the story and in a very natural way. Ronnie’s sardonic voice is clear and distinct, and Beaufrand manages to sidestep most of the typical “oh-gosh-this-is-a-small-town” cliches and stereotypes.
